Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on the Hon. Erin O’Toole’s resignation from the House of Commons

Ottawa, Ontario – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Erin O’Toole’s announcement of his decision not to seek re-election and to resign his seat in the House of Commons:

“Throughout his life, Erin has dedicated himself to service of our country, his community, and his family. We can all take valuable lessons and inspiration from Erin’s service to others.

“Whether it was serving on a Sea King helicopter during his years in our military or fighting for our veterans and soldiers as the Minister of Veterans Affairs, Erin has demonstrated his deep commitment to our great country.

“Erin has deep roots in Durham, and I know that he will be sorely missed by his constituents. Erin can leave his role as their Member of Parliament knowing that his community is far better off because of his years of sacrifice and service for the people of Durham.

“During his time as Leader of the Opposition, Erin held the Trudeau government to account, fighting against their reckless spending and divisive politics. The House of Commons will be a lesser place without his experience and statesmanship.

“And above all else, I know Erin to be a man who puts his family at the centre of all that he does. Being a Member of Parliament is not always easy on those that we care about. But I know Erin to be a deeply caring husband and father. His service has been in service of his wife Rebecca and his two children, Mollie and Jack.

“I truly wish Erin all the best in the next chapter of his life, and I would like to thank him for his service to both the Conservative Party of Canada and all Canadians.”
